The Challenge
Jockey Club Estates, home to some of the UK’s most prestigious racing facilities, required a large-scale fencing installation across two of its main gallops. The project involved the installation of 5,200 metres of Duralock Race Rail, a vital safety and performance feature for the hundreds of professional racehorses training daily on the grounds.
However, the job came with notable complexities
- Operational Constraints: The gallops remained fully operational throughout the project, with over 700 racehorses using the facilities daily, leaving minimal room for error or disruption.
- Location-Specific Pressures: The fencing route passed directly through the busiest parts of the training grounds.
- Weather Conditions: Unpredictable weather posed potential delays, adding further pressure to an already tight schedule.
- Strict Deadlines and Budget: The project had to be delivered on time and within budget, without compromising quality or safety.

The Solution
As one of Duralock UK’s trusted fencing installers, Tomley Projects was selected for our reputation in managing complex equestrian construction environments.
To meet the tight schedule and maintain safety for horses, trainers, and staff, we deployed two experienced fencing teams working simultaneously. This enabled us to:
- Maintain high efficiency without sacrificing safety and quality.
- Complete the project within 5 working days, minimising the window of disruption.
- Adapt daily to gallop use schedules, working flexibly around peak training hours.
- Respond rapidly to adverse weather, using contingency plans to maintain momentum without compromising site conditions
Throughout, our team remained in constant communication with Jockey Club Estates staff to ensure every step aligned with their operational needs.

The Outcome
Despite challenging site logistics and weather conditions, Tomley Projects successfully delivered:
- 5,200 metres of Duralock fencing installed to a high standard
- No disruption to the daily routines of over 700 racehorses and their trainers
- Project completed on time and to budget
- No safety incidents or delays
- A very satisfied client
This project is a testament to Tomley Projects’ ability to combine speed, precision, and flexibility in high-pressure environments. Our understanding of equestrian operations and our proactive approach ensured that The Jockey Club’s world-class training standards were upheld every step of the way.

Will Riggall, Jockey Club Estates
From the design to implementation, Tom has been extremely helpful and accommodating along the way… The build was challenging as it was centrally located on the gallops which remained in use by over 700 racehorses daily… Tom’s team were courteous and flexible to our customer’s needs at all times. I would have no hesitation but to recommend Tomley Projects for all civils and equestrian construction needs.
